December 2011

Can’t sell your old books? Donate them!

Have some books you don’t need? Donate them to a good cause!

The Wheelock Library is  partnered with Better World Books, an organization that collects used books and sells them online to raise money for literacy initiatives worldwide.  You can also purchase books through their site, and proceeds will support literacy foundations.

Drop your books in one of the orange & green bins around campus, which are located:

  • In the Library
  • In the Campus Center
  • In the Pilgrim Student Center (outside the Campus Services window)
  • In the Hawes building (ground floor)
We have selected the National Center for Family Literacy to benefit from the books left in the bins. If you can’t sell back your books, or have a pile to clear out of your dorm room, donate them and support a good cause!

New Library Website Improves, Thanks to Your Feedback!

Thanks for all your great feedback on the new Library website so far! Please continue to send us your thoughts or concerns. Again, our beta-site is available at the link below or from the banner on our current site.

http://www.wheelock.edu/librarybeta/

We’ve made some changes based on the comments we’ve received. Below are a few examples:

“The explanation on the Journals tab is somewhat confusing.”

  • We’ve changed the wording to be more clear.

The Research Help section lacks anything about writing resources.

  • We added links to the Writing Center and resources to writing guides on the Citation and Writing page

“Hope you still implement chat with a librarian feature.”

  • We will! The chat feature only appears when a reference librarian is online and available. We will transition to the new chat system once we switch to the new site.

Take a look at our progress and tell us what you think.

We are also in the process of testing the new site with Wheelock community members to further fine-tune it. Look for additional improvements in the next month.

All Library Items Due Dec. 20th

Wheelock students! As you’re making your end-of-semester to-do lists, make sure you add “Return all Library items by Tuesday, December 20th.”  This includes all books, DVDs, AV equipment and tests/assessments.  Outstanding items may result in suspension of your Library borrowing privileges for the spring semester (or, in the case of December grads, prevent you from receiving your diploma).

Thanks so much, and good luck with finals!
