Reserves

1. Can I send a student to the Library with something to be placed on reserve?

Because only faculty can request that materials be placed on reserve, a student can deliver an item to be placed on reserve as long as you have submitted a request.  But we are not able to place something on reserve at a student's request.

2. How do I find my course reserves?

All course reserves are located at the Circulation Desk. Students are allowed to check out three reserve items at one time. You need to know the call number of each of the item(s) you need. To find the call number:

  • Go to the Library's Course Reserve tab of the online catalog (FLO)
  • Find your instructor, department, or course in one of the drop-down lists.
  • Scroll to near the bottom to find choices that start with "Wheelock" or 'WHE".
  • Click the Search button at the bottom right of the screen. This will bring up the list of items that are on reserve for your instructor, department, or course.
  • Find the title and call number of the item(s) that you need. If no call number is displayed and it says "multiple holdings available" click on the title to get a detailed record with the call number.
  • Take the call number  to the Circulation Desk to get the item you need.

3. How do I put materials on reserve for my course?

Please use the course reserves request form.

4. How do I take out books or course reserves? Do I need my ID?

In order to check out library materials you must present a valid Wheelock ID, a valid FLO card or a valid ID from another library in the Fenway Library Consortium (FLC).

Course reserves are available only to current Wheelock students. Your ID will be held behind the Circulation Desk until your item(s) is returned.

5. How long can I take a reserve out for? How do I check them out?

Materials put on reserve for a class are designated either Library Use Only or Overnight Use. Overnight materials will be due by noon the next day.

To access the reserve collection, patrons must present a photo I.D.  Reserve materials may include books, photocopies or personal copies that have been assigned by faculty as required reading during a specific semester as well as videos and tests/assessments.

6. How long does it take to get materials placed on reserve for my course?

It will depend on several things, including when you submit your request, how many items you are requesting, and how accurate and complete the information you provide is.  The beginning of the semester is very busy, and we receive many reserve requests then, so it can take up to a week to process your request at that time, longer if there are problems.

7. Where are the course reserves?

Reserve materials are held at the main desk on Floor 1.
