1. Can I look at materials in the Archives?
Access to the Archives is provided through appointment only. Please call the Library Reference staff at 617-879-2222 or email to arrange an appointment.
2. Can I search the databases from home?
Yes. All of the Library's online databases can be accessed from off campus. When you access them from off campus, you will taken to a login page that prompts you to enter a username and password. Use the same username and password you use to access your Wheelock e-mail account.

3. Can I send a student to the Library with something to be placed on reserve?
Because only faculty can request that materials be placed on reserve, a student can deliver an item to be placed on reserve as long as you have submitted a request. But we are not able to place something on reserve at a student's request.
4. How can I request media equipment to use in my class?
Use the online form to request media equipment.
5. How can I request that the Library purchase a book or other materials?
Use the Suggest a Title/Website form, or contact any of the Library staff.
6. How can I reserve a video for use in my class?
Use the video request form.
7. How do I find videos and DVDs in the catalog?
Add the term videorecording to your keyword search to find videos and DVDs.

Enter phrases and multi-word titles in quotation marks.

8. How do I get audio-visual equipment?
Submit the AV Request Form if you wish to reserve equipment for a class or request maintenance on any of the equipment.
9. How do I put materials on reserve for my course?
Please use the course reserves request form.
10. How long does it take to get materials placed on reserve for my course?
It will depend on several things, including when you submit your request, how many items you are requesting, and how accurate and complete the information you provide is. The beginning of the semester is very busy, and we receive many reserve requests then, so it can take up to a week to process your request at that time, longer if there are problems.
11. If I'm having trouble getting into the databases, what can I do?
If you cannot access any of the databases, here are the suggested steps:
- Restart your computer and try accessing the database again.
- If you are unable to access the database once you restart, try using a different browser such as Firefox, Opera, or the latest version of Internet Explorer. Or try another computer, if possible.
- If you are still unable to access the database, contact the Library for assistance at 617-879-2222, via meebo, or email.

13. What are the guiding principles for Information Literacy at the Library?
At the Wheelock College Library, Information Literacy is about promoting habits of life-long, self-directed learning that enable our students to "recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information." 1 Information Literacy instruction addresses the foundational elements of academic research. Using an active learning approach, it emphasizes the role of inquiry, evaluation, and decision-making in the use of information resources, and fosters strategic and critical thinking about the research process.
14. What are the Information Literacy Standards for Higher Education established by ACRL (Association for College and Research Libraries)?

15. What is my library card number and PIN number?
Your library card number is the 13-digit number between the two letters "A" on your ID. Unless you have changed it, the default PIN number is fenway1.
16. What materials are in the Archives?
The Library serves as an archive for materials documenting the history of Wheelock College, including the memorabilia of its founder, Lucy Wheelock, and houses a collection of rare children's literature and scholarly books on education and the child. See the Archives page for more information and for finding aids.
17. What media (AV) equipment is available to check out from the Library?
The following equipment is available for check-out:
All classrooms in the classroom building have TV/DVD/VCR combos and an overhead projector.
18. Where did the textbook collection go?
The textbooks that used to be on Floor 2 are now at the beginning of the Main Collection on Floor 3M.
19. Where is the computer lab? How can I reserve the computer lab for a class?
The Wheelock College Library has two computer labs on the Lower Level with workstations available for students, faculty and staff. Faculty and staff may also reserve the labs for class sessions.
