New Look for Lexis-Nexis Academic

Changes are underway to a number of library databases and in the coming weeks we’ll be posting about new resources. Some existing resources, such as the library catalog (FLO) and Lexis Nexis Academic are undergoing modifications to the look, feel and behind-the scenes operations. Today we’ll focus on L-N Academic.


The previous version of Academic would never have made it onto our list of easy-to-use databases and we hope that the changes will help users to gain access to the rich array of full-text materials in news, legal information (including codes, case law, and law review articles), business resources, and public opinion polls . Lexis Nexis has even added coverage of some blogs in the content.

If you were used to finding resources in the previous version of Academic and would like some help with the new version or would just like to know more about using the database, please contact the Reference Desk at (617) 879-2222 or reference@wheelock.edu.


Independence Day

The Library will be closed Wednesday, July 4, through Friday, July 6, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. We will be open Saturday, July 7, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Here are a few suggested websites to visit for more information on the reasons we celebrate July 4th:

Learn more about the Declaration of Independence at websites from the National Archives in Washington, D.C., where the document is housed; and from the Independence Hall Association in Philadelphia, PA, where the document was signed in 1776.

A Library staff favorite about the Founding Fathers is John, Paul, George & Ben. Author and illustrator Lane Smith’s website has blog posts, reviews, a link to two very fun Patriots’ Games and more.

Plan a visit to the Freedom Trail to see sites from Boston’s revolutionary history.
