Administrative/Biographical History
Donald Cruickshank was the seventh President of Wheelock College. Cruickshank held a Bachelor's from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Master's and Doctorate in Education from the University of Rochester. Prior to his appointment as chairman of the department of early and middle childhood education at Ohio State University in 1969, Cruickshank held administrative and teaching posts at the University of Tennessee, the State University College in Brockport, N.Y., and at two elementary schools in Rochester, N.Y. In addition, he was the recipient of a special citation from AACTE for his work in the application of technology to teacher education. Cruickshank came to Wheelock in 1971 to serve as the President, and returned to his position at Ohio State University in 1972, after a year in which he professed disappointment at “merely bailing water but not plugging holes.”
